Title: Empowering Young Minds: The School Reading Program Implementation Plan
Introduction: In the heart of Tarlac City lies Sitio Dam Elementary School, a beacon of learning dedicated to nurturing young readers. With the unwavering support of the Department of Education and the local community, the school proudly launches Project SITIO (Strengthening Intervention towards Improved Outcomes) in Reading for the school year 2023-2024. This initiative aims to tackle reading difficulties and foster a love for books among students from grades 1 to 6.
Rationale: Reading is more than just a fundamental skill; it is the gateway to a lifetime of learning and curiosity. Recognizing its importance, Sitio Dam Elementary School conducted a comprehensive pre-reading assessment, revealing significant challenges among students in various aspects of reading. The data showed that a notable percentage of students struggled with letter decoding, sound knowledge, word recognition, and comprehension. The findings underscored the urgent need for a targeted intervention to uplift the reading abilities of young learners.
